Liz's special interest and expertise in this area has been developed over the past 10 years. She receives referrals from many sources including GPs, midwives, gynaecologists, obstetricians, colorectal surgeons, gastroenterologists and sexual health counsellors. You may also self refer – ask for Liz when you make an appointment.
 
Treatment may involve pelvic floor strengthening or relaxation exercises. You will receive advice on lifestyle factors and self help measures to assist in your recovery and rehabilitation. Treatment is personalised to meet individual requirements, empowering women and enabling them a drug free, non-surgical option for these conditions.
 
Liz has a range of biofeedback, TENS and electrical stimulation equipment available for use if required.
 

 
Bladder & Bowel Control Problems
 
Liz can assist you with the treatment of
  • poor control of your bladder or bowel
  • frequent use of the toilet
  • wet pants eg when coughing, laughing or physically active
  • constipation
Liz will explain how your bladder and bowel will work and teach you how to improve control.

Pregnancy
 
Liz is able to offer the following services during pregnancy
  • assessment & treatment of back/pelvic pain
  • assessment & treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome and other pregnancy related conditions
  • access to pregnancy hydrotherapy classes
  • provision of wrist splints and back supports when required
  • general advice on lifestyle factors and self help measures to encourage and maintain good posture and prevent injury

Following Childbirth
 
All the ligaments in the body remain loose for some time after giving birth. This means repeated lifting of children, car-seats and pushchairs can make you more susceptible to injury.
 
Liz is happy to see women for the treatment of
  • back/pelvic pain and other musculoskeletal conditions
  • exercises for good bladder and bowel control
  • advice and self help measures following perineal tears or episiotomy
  • general strengthening programmes
  • advice on returning to exercise

Pelvic Pain and Vulvodynia
 
Liz can offer specialised assessment and treatment for
  • pelvic pain, back pain
  • pelvic floor muscle spasm & other conditions causing painful intercourse
  • stress & anxiety associated with ongoing pain - treatment includes breathing retraining and relaxation techniques

 
Prolapse Care and Prevention
 
Many women experience some form of pelvic organ prolapse during their lives. This results from a combination of factors including pregnancy, childbirth trauma, ageing, hormonal changes around menopause, straining with constipation, heavy lifting or coughing.
 
Liz is able to offer specialised pelvic floor training and give advice on lifestyle factors and self help measures.
